Advisory Boards

advisory boardsBusiness owners often operate in a vacuum with little access to expert advice or critical evaluation. This can not only be a lonely situation, it can also be dangerous for the company. Galliard Group specializes in developing effective Advisory Boards for our client companies. These boards are made up of hand picked experts who have an interest in your business and a desire to help your organization thrive. Advisory Board members are generally experts in their own fields and relish the opportunity to share their knowledge and expertise with you.

"Advisors shed light on areas of expertise that are not currently contained in the company...and connect the company with the outside world."

Different from a Board of Directors—Advisory Board members do not vote and do not have a fiduciary responsibility —they are, as their name suggests, advisors to the company and usually receive a small fee for attending regular meetings. The meeting schedules are set by each individual company in consultation with their advisors, however, most meet quarterly.

This process has numerous advantages for the business owner. Advisors serve as mentors and coaches, consultants and teachers. They can shed light on areas of expertise that are not currently contained in the company, mentor up-and-coming managers, provide a buffer between the family members and non-family managers, and connect the company with the outside world.

We have many examples of successful Advisory Boards and welcome the opportunity to discuss how this process might help your family-owned business thrive.
